2012 Sep 21

New Student and Family Orientation at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado welcomes over 1100 new students and more than 500 family members each fall. Caitlin Houser, of Cortez, CO, was a crucial part of Orientation programming as an Assistant Student Director of Orientation. Houser's current major is Mathematics - Mathematics for Secondary Education Option.

Student Orientation Leaders participated in an interview process last spring, met certain GPA requirements, and were selected in a competitive process. These leaders are charged with ensuring that new students and their family members are properly welcomed, informed about critical issues particular to new students (and families) and that they feel prepared to start by the first day of classes. As an Assistant Student Director of Orientation, Houser was influential in training all of the Orientation Leaders and setting the tone for the program. Houser was also successful in her application to be the Student Director of Orientation for the 2012-13 term.
