Kylie Santos of Fort Lewis College Women's Basketball Team Earns Inaugural RMAC Brechler Award

Fort Lewis College earned the inaugural Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Brechler Award for women's basketball. The conference recognized all 21 teams with the top grade point averages in each of the conference's sports.

Kylie Santos, of Golden, CO. Santos was part of the Skyhawk squad that posted a 3.48 grade point average in 2012-13. Fort Lewis finished the season with an 18-11 overall record and their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA post-season playoffs. Santos's major is Accounting.

"We are very honored to have won the Brechler Award for women's basketball," said Jason Flores, Fort Lewis head women's basketball coach. "Our players have worked hard both academically and athletically, and that hard work and dedication paid off. It is a great accomplishment to hold the highest team GPA in the conference, and we look forward to the challenge of continually getting better."

The award is named after Paul W. Brechler, the first Commissioner of the RMAC (1976-1990), who along with his wife Wanda, were the first inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Brechler is also the former athletic director at the University of Iowa and was Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Grades were used from the 2012-13 school year. Only student-athletes who used a season of competition were counted. The total quality points for both semesters divided by the total number of credits for both semesters is the formula determined to calculate the team GPA.
