Missy Fundora named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Academic Player of the Year

2016 Apr 18

Melissa Fundora, of Valencia, has been voted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Academic Player of the Year. It also marks the fourth straight year a Skyhawks student-athlete has earned the distinction from Skyhawk softball (Chelsea Rodriguez: 2013 and 2014).

The career leader in hits (219) and doubles (42), Fundora owns a 3.82 grade point average in Psychology. She ranks ninth in the league in batting average (.404) and she is tied for fourth in doubles with 14. Fundora is also tied for league high honors for most runs (four) and hits (four) in a single game, both of which occurred in the Skyhawks home series against Colorado Christian University. In 43 games this season, Fundora has recorded 55 hits, scored 34 runs, drove in 14 runs, drawn 18 works, and she has an .890 fielding percentage from center field.

The conference's sports information directors voted on the Academic Player of the Year, along with the First Team All-Academic members. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters. Grade point averages are based on grades including the Fall 2015 semester.
