2015 Jan 16

Tyler Colle, of Golden CO, was a member of Fort Lewis College's winning team at the Rocky Mountain Regional competition of the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl on November 15, 2014. Colle's major is Music - Music Business option and Philosophy.

FLC joins the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in representing the Rocky Mountain Region. In advancing to Nationals, FLC competed against Metro State University (twice), Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University-Fort Collins, and the Air Force Academy.

The team will compete at Nationals on February 22nd as part of the APPE (Association for Practical and Professional Ethics) Conference in Costa Mesa, CA. Thirty two teams from ten regions compete in the national competition.

The Ethics Bowl brings teams of students from around the country to argue and defend their moral assessment of some of the most troubling and complex ethical issues facing society today. Questions address a wide array of topics in business and professional ethics, in personal relationships, and in social and political affairs.

The competition focuses on selected cases developed by APPE ethics faculty, researchers, and professionals; covering a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to, business, engineering, journalism, law, medicine, and social work. In the competitions students demonstrate their ability to (1) understand the facts of the case, (2) articulate the ethical principles involved in the case, (3) present an effective argument on how the case should be resolved, and (4) respond effectively to challenges put forth by the opposing team as well as the panel of expert judges.
